The Iowa Homebrewer Award was established in 2005. This award was created
to honor the brewing skills of one Iowa resident Homebrewer and to promote Iowa
Homebrew Competitions. This brewer has demonstrated outstanding brewing skills by
consistent performance in three of the four sanctioned Iowa competitions:
IBU Open March 31, 2012
THIRSTY Classic May 12, 2012
The Iowa State Fair August 9, 2012
MUGZ Land of the Muddy Waters November 2012
How is the award determined?
Points will be awarded as follows 5 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, and 1 point for 3rd
place finishes in a qualifying competition. Only the highest placing beer per BJCP
numbered category will be used to calculate points. The Award score will be determined
by dividing the total points accumulated by the total number of competition entries
receiving a placing. The 2008 BJCP Style Guidelines will be followed. Points must be
earned in a minimum of 4 of the possible 28 BJCP style categories in order to be eligible
for the award.
Other Rules
All entries must be brewed at home, No Brewpub, Microbrewery or Brew on
Premises beers are eligible in any of the participating contests. All brewers must be 21
years of age at the time of the competition to enter.
