club-only comp=American Ales  (United States)

What does this mean?  My naive assumption would be "Bring in two bottles of an American Ale and we are having a competition where you would get feedback".  Is that a good assumption?

Jason,

Not entirely.  Club Only Comps are part of the AHA competition series.  It is open to all homebrew clubs.  Bring in any beer that you feel fits the categories 10A, 10B or 10C in the BJCP Guidelines.  They will be judged at the meeting.  The winner can then send the beer to the site listed for the Club Only competition.  I've listed the info below:

March/April 2010

American Ales

Entries are due Saturday, April 3, 2010. Judging will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010. Entry fee is $7. Make checks payable to American Homebrewers Association.

Entry Shipping:
AHA COC
c/o Olde Mecklenburg Brewing
215 Southside Drive
Charlotte, NC 28217

Hosted by Bill Lynch and the Carolina Brewmasters of Charlotte, NC, this competition covers only BJCP Category 10 styles (American Pale Ale, American Amber Ale, and American Brown Ale).  For more information, contact Bill Lynch at brewcnc@yahoo.com.

The MUGZ club will pick up the cost for shipping the winner.  Hope to see you enter one next meeting.

Jim Smith

P.S.

The BJCP style Guidelines can be found at:

www.bjcp.org

Follow the style guidelines link at the right of the homepage.

thanks Jim,  for explaining that-we should probably have a brush-up on club-only's for the newer members at the next meeting!  In a nutshell---the club-only is judged (1 bottle) at the most 'comp timely' MUGZ meeting by the MUGZ judges who are present.  MUGZ provides them with style guidelines and tasting glasses. MUGZ pays the winner's entry fee and shipping; any winner should have the treasurer write out a check for entry fee at the meeting, and then turn in your shipping receipt for reinbursement.
